Excellent article over at the Guardian, documenting the slight ascent and epic plummet of East End rent-a-wideboy Danny Dyer. The article gets it spot on; Dyer could have had a decent career going - he’s likeable enough given the right material and he actually can act - but his consistently terrible film choices (recent film “Pimp” grossed all of £205) and insistence on maintaining his irritatingly obnoxious screen persona non grata has turned him into a byword for straight-to-DVD British cinema.
It probably hasn’t helped the situation that his so name is so easily punned.
